Zelda Sayre Fitzgerld

I made Zelda, the wife of the most amazing American author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and a writer and artist in her own right, for a contest at Tabbycat's.  It is , which includes three rounds.  The first round was to doll a historical woman in modern day garb--what might Boudica, Joan of Arc, Queen Elizabeth, or Zelda look like if they lived today?

I chose to keep some of the historical elements of Zelda's style--she was inherently classy.  The things she wore in the 1920s aren't all that out of fashion now.  In the 1920s she was The Flapper and wore shorter skirts--today I think she might shun the trend of short, butt skirts and wear longer skirts--to be different.  I picture her in a Sax skirt and black cashmere sweater. Complete with pearls and a gold bracelet. I think her hair would still be short, but perhaps less stylized than it was in the 1920s.  Admittedly, Zelda was no small woman.  However, I chose a conventional base, because that is what I am comfortable dolling on.

I got a lot of help from the Cobblestone Critics at Eden Enchanted and I used Kanakopo's great pearl tutorial. Base by DHF.

I think is she one of the best dolls I have made so far and look forward to doing the other rounds--even if I am disqualified

Zelda Sayre Fitzgerld--Exposed

Here is my second entry for Tabbycat's contest Miss Doll History.  The object was to make your character, mine being Zelda, in undergarments of the period.  So, after a bit of research and help from Another Time, I found a great 1920s step-in teddy. I also found great period slippers at Vintage Textiles although the detail was lost on my small Zelda.  I kept her hair and jewelry the same, imagining her having undressed from her modern garb back into the past into her own slip.

She holds one of her books.  I also made another version with text--the words "Save Me The Waltz" are the title of her only novel--and I thought she just looked rather sad, and I heard her saying this to Scott across the years.  They loved one another so much yet they were both so haunted and tortured.

The base is DHF.  I used Haich's book on my Homepage to help me fashion my own.

We will see what Round Three holds...what a great contest!

This is an edit I did for Couture.

Isabelle, A Medieval Country Lass

Isabelle is a Medieval country girl who loves picking flowers and listening to her true love Simon, The Bard, sing of The Great King Arthur.

I made her for a medieval contest at Harman's. The base is by Fainelloth and I used DHF's braid tutorial. I used Xena's hair palette. I based Isabelle's dress on one from Renaissance Store.  I enjoyed making her and she is also my first authentic historical doll, which is appropriate for the new forum I joined, Ship of Dreams

I am pleased with her--but I wish I got get ride of the jagged edges on her dress and make the white shading show up better. I might have darkened the sides of her dress. . .  I am not sure about the ribbon colors--but I think it is a beginning.  I think I am starting to get this fold thing down!

Ship of Dreams Yearbook Entry

This is my Ship of Dreams Yearbook entry.  I was inspired by a dress from Titanic the movie--you can see it here.  I made some modifications.  I kind of came up with the hat on my own.  I am fairly happy with the shading of the skirt and hair, but not so much the hat or shoes.  The idea was to make an Edwardian themed doll for the the yearbook.  This is supposed to be me around 1912.  There were a whole lot of versions that came before this one.  I worked really hard on her!!  Base is by Sephora.

Ingrid: World War II

I made Ingrid for the Ship of Dream's July 1940s WWII theme.  I found an old McCall's pattern and used it as inspiration.  I am either very happy with the shading or not all--depending on my mood! I also couldn't decide about the hate  I think every lady in the 1940s wore a hat to a proper occasion--as it should be. I enjoyed making her although she went through several versions.  Base by DHF.  USO poster by Dame Cindy. WWII posters by IBelle.  Max, the soldier boy, by Dame Cindy.

She also attended a USO dance at the Ship of Dreams and she met up with a soldier Max, who jitterbugged with her all night long.   Remember--loose lips sink ships!

DON'T ADOPT INGRID AND MAX TOGETHER

Zelda Fitzgerald--The Original Flapper

I made Zelda for the Miss Doll History Contest at Tabbycat's and the Flapper contest at Harman's.  I adjusted her hair color and style and shading due to some CC at Fairytopia and Ship of Dreams.  Thanks Ladies!  I worked soooo hard on Zelda here.  Her dress went through several revisions and I think it needs more flare still.  Her shoes are chunky--but I think they fit the twenties.  I am basically happy with the shading and dress design.  Although I know I could still make improvements or do better, I am proud of her.

Zelda Fitzgerald in the Miss Doll History Pageant: Modern,  1920s  Under Garments,  and 1920s  Flapper Garb

Here they all are together!  Bases by DHF.  I really enjoyed this process!  What a great contest.  Miss Doll History.

Ruth, The Victorian Pioneer Woman

I was inspired to make Ruth by Ship of Dreams, a historical forum.  August's theme is the 1850s-70s Victorian Era.  Instead of going for the more popular stylized Victorian fashion, I went for the typical 1850s pioneer woman's dress.  You have no idea how many versions this dress went through!  But, I finally got it mostly.  I am not totally happy with the front fold, but I did the best I could.  I am happy with the way the apron and bonnet turned out.  Base by Fainelloth.  She was a challenge, but worth it.  You can find my reference picture here.

Egypt, Queen of the Nile

This is the first doll I started after my hiatus, although I only just finished her.  I love the Xandorra's new base--it was fun to work on and I am actually really please with the Eye of Horus.  Her gown--eh, but it was a start!  She was fun.  I was inspired by a palette challenge at Fairytopia.

Victoria, A Victorian Christmas

I created Victoria for Ship of Dream's Victorian December theme and the Victorian Christmas ball there.  I used Haich's fold tutorial and I think for the first time my sophisticated folds don't suck!!! Yay me!  I am really quite proud of the folds here.  I used one of Sephora's dolls as guide for her hair.  The pattern comes from Obsidian Dawn.  So it was a lovely Victorian Christmas!  Now to recreate these folds!  I also entered her in a historical contest at my sister's site, Cloud9.  Base is by DHF.

Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, 1962

My idol and heroine.  Jackie displayed grace and dignity in all matters.  She was a true lady who loved her husbands, children, and work as a photographer and book editor.  In some ways she scorned her debutante up-bringing, but she took with her the best of it.  I made this doll for a Valentine's Day event at Ship of Dreams before it crashed!  Oh my.  Base DHF. But, I simply enjoyed the process of making her.  This is the famous dress from the 1962 Valentine's Day White House tour.  According to the Met the dress was designed by Chez Ninon for Christian Dior.  The original dress is dark red wool boucle, so I tried to recreate this look.  The fabric is not supposed to look sparkle-y so much as textured.  I am not sure about that, but i really enjoyed making her.  Jackie's actual hair color is dark brown and I think the picture also obscured her hair style. Oops, forgot the bracelets! I am very happy with the hair and the design of the jacket.  I struggled and struggled with the skirt and making it appear non-boxy but not too foldy.  I looked up some 1962 shoes and made mine from there.  In honor of you, Jackie.  My inspiration.

Anne and Sylvia

I fell in love with Anne Sexton's poetry in high school and then later discovered Sylvia Plath.  They were both amazing poets, although very different.  I was inspired to do these two by the April TYM theme, famous couples.  Anne and Sylvia were very good friends.  I read somewhere that Anne always wore a red dress when she wrote, so I used 1950s-60s dresses as reference.  And Anne was often shown with a cigarette in her pictures.  I used a screen shot from the movie Sylvia for Sylvia's outfit. I had fun doing these two, although the pattern on Sylvia's dress gave me a helluva time.  Thanks to the girls at TYM, especially Sephora, I got it figured.  Base by DHF

Gertrud, The Viking

Gertrud was born for a TYM Viking Theme.  I used a historically accurate reference picture here.  Base by Haich and hair tut by DHF.  I tried to make her folds more subtle than some of my flowing fantasy gowns, and I also tried to make her braid very thick.  Like the picture, I tried to make her shirt balloon a bit.  I don't know how I did with that.   I used a historical torque for her neck.  She is wearing plain deerskin moccasins.  And the beading colors are from the Swedish Flag--Go Swedes!

Lady Grey

I created Lady Grey for Meguey's Tea contest.  I am really thrilled with how she came out!  I think she is my best doll yet!  I based her dress on the green and white dress in Emma.  The Base is my Barbie Base and the tea cup is by Sechmet (site down).  I used DHF's transparency dress as a reference for mine and of course I did the transparency the way the tutorial suggested.  I used Sephora's Ewardian dolls as a reference for my hair.  The cup is meant to be Wedgwood.  Also, I made the pattern on the lace myself!

This is my first doll on my own base.  I am so PROUD of myself.  My dolls are now all mine from pixel to pixel!  I have so much pride for that!  If I did it, so can you!  WOW!  I am like a real artist!

Bridget Bishop

I was inspired to create Bridget Bishop by reading The Crucible by Arthur Miller and Witch by Jennifer M. Wilson.  I feel very drawn to the Salem Witch Trials and Colonial America.  The Witch Trials were a tragic time in America that was marked by hysteria, fear, and judgment.  Bridget Bishop was known for wearing a scarlet bodice, which in Puritan Salem was quite scandalous.  She was married three times and ran a tavern.  She was a successful woman.  She was her own woman and people feared her and hated her for it.  She was different.

I am quite proud of this doll.  I think I did well on the folds and I am told I did!  I couldn't decide whether her hair looked best down or up.  She  most probably wore it up, but I like to imagine it down.  I was fairly faithful to the clothing of the period.  I used DHF palettes for the skirt, but I made the white, red, white, and hair palette.  I need to add more depth and contrast to the white palette.  My Base!

Mary and Little Wolf--Thanksgiving Dolls

In honor of the First Thanksgiving I made a little Wampanoag Indian and Pilgrim girl.  I know all the controversy about the first Thanksgiving, but in the end both people came together to help each other.  I think that children who are innocent of prejudices mostly show that spirit. I also found a great children's historical clothing site here. Apparently Pilgrim children were not restricted to wearing black and white. To my knowledge and research the Indian girl is accurate too, although she'd probably have a fur cloak of some sort--wasn't tackling that.  I am happy with how they came out.  I think Mary's bonnet could have more contrast shading.  But, I am really pleased with Little Wolf and the details of her outfit Bases by me.  Base recolor and original palette  and braid tutorial by DHF.  This is one of the Indian sites I used.

June, 1950s Hostess

This was originally another palette challenge at The Last Gate, but then I forgot to use the palette!  So, I made her into a 1950s hostess.  That era--something about it that is so American.  I was not sure about the pattern on the dress, but without the pattern, the dress looked blank.  I struggled with the bow, but I think it's passable.  The hair was supposed to be the classic 1950s flip, I dunno.  Of course she is carrying sundaes.  Since I've had to give up ice cream due to my sensitive stomach I've been a bit obsessed!   I was going to pixel a burger and fries, but I rand out of room.  I'm not sure about the tray or her shoes.  I like her, but she was a challenge.  She is on my Barbie Base.  You wouldn't believe the detail in the ice cream!!!  I am really starting to enjoy pixeling.

Kathy, Ready for the Hop

So, this is the palette challenge at The Last Gate that was originally supposed to be June.  I went for the iconic 1950s poodle skirt.  She is on Mari's base and I used Libby's poodle skirt tutorial for the poodle, which I think came out rather well.  She is cute, but I developed a hostile relationship with her when I was creating her.  I don't know why.  I think I was rushing to get her done or I was getting tired of the 1950s.  But, looking at her now, I like her.  I think I really did rather well on her and the details, especially the shoes.  I tried to make a scarf in her hair, but I had to settle for a ribbon.  I'm getting there!

Big Busted Katie

This doll on Silindor's base was hard!!  I must have redone her skirt five times and I am still not thrilled with it or the petticoat.  It was for the Unsavory Socialites Ball at Last Gate.  I went to the ball with another Soiled Dove, Pandemonium's Creation also on Silindor's base.  Poor Pan had the flu, but finished her beauty by deadline anyway.  I love the silkiness of Pan's dress. I am happy with my fishnet stockings and boots.  I really like her hair and feathers.  Sephora and Cindy were HUGE helps in making Katie what she is.  I like her eye makup and the corset--just not sure about the skirt folds.  Oy.  I also entered my doll in a contest at Pudi's and got two awards!

Anne Boleyn of The Tudors Series

So I recently have become obsessed with The Tudors Showtime series.  Anne Boleyn and her daughter Elizabeth have always held a special place in her heart.  I just had to doll on her on Haich's base (site down).  I used a reference picture from here.  I am pretty impressed with her myself.  She just came together.  The brocade just worked out right.  I wasn't thrilled with the folds, but the noise I used to give the dress a velvety look and the brocade hid the fold errors.  I had the most difficulty with getting her crown to be the right size.  I tried to make the gold bits on the crown resemble the Tudor rose.  Overall  I am really impressed that I made her. I enjoyed working on her despite some of my fold frustration, which Sephora helped me with.  I am pretty proud of her and I hope to to more Tudors soon.

Queen Jane Seymour

Jane Seymour was infamous Henry VIII's third wife.  Because i am partial to Anne Boleyn I always saw Jane as just Anne's replacement who was able to give Henry what Anne could not.  Historically, I kind of resented her.  Don't even get me started on Mary Queen of Scots!  Anyway, through The Tudors I learned that Jane was actually a very compassionate woman who did love Henry.  She also did a lot to reunite Henry and his daughters, Mary and Elizabeth.  She did give Henry his beloved son, Edward.  She was, by accounts, the love of Henry's life and he is buried beside her.  I used a dress from the show the Tudors--which has really helped me understand the era and Henry better---inaccuracies notwithstanding--but that dress is here.  She is on my base.  I am happy with her although I am never sure if my fold style looks right.  I was also a bit unsure of the pattern and the ruff. I made the pattern myself.  Getting jewelry to look like gold or rubies is hard!  She was fun to work on although the palette took me forever to get right!  I liked this dress because compared to firey, sultry Anne Boleyn, there was an innocence and good natured-ness about Jane, I think.  I think the color suits her.  What can i say, my historical knowledge is influenced my Hollywood!  There are worse things....  i was inspired do her for a challenge at The Last Gate---a lover who has a tragic end!   I can't think of a more tragic end than dying two weeks after giving birth to Henry's son.  I liked working on her a lot and I want to do the other wives too. Adoptable.

I tied for first place with the great tropicallilli!  i am honored!

Kristina, The National Swedish Costume

While on vacation in the Heartland I was inspired to create a Swedish girl, since my grandparents are of Swedish and Norwegian descent.  I am happy with her.  She is on my base.  I had a good time doing all the detail.  The reference picture is here.  I am not sure that apron looks so much like an apron, but it is like the reference picture.  I was also told that next time I need to make more contrast between the hair and the shirt.  That is true.  Next time!  I chose to go with a traditional headband rather than the bonnet.  I am not sure of the shading on her shirt and I wanted the brooch and belt buckle to be silver....but she is cute and I am happy with her.  Kiss a Swede today!  Adoptable.

Arabella, The Medieval Noblewoman

Arabella.  She wasn't easy!  I fiddled and fiddled with the sleeves and I am still not sure of them.  She was done for a medieval themed contest at Raven's.  We had to use at least 6 items from a list and I chose: long braid, long dress, amulet, moon and stars, tunic, element of fire in the rubies, and a crown.  That's 7 things, but 7 is a better number!  I developed a kind of hostile relationship with Arabella because I couldn't get certain elements right and nothing seemed to fall into place.  I am told that she is lovely--but Arabella and I just didn't seem to get on.  Some dolls are like that.  I am pleased with the pattern.  The moon and stars pattern I made myself and the second pattern is from my Jane Seymour doll.  I guess the folds are okay.  Her dress was inspired by this dress here.  I wanted to go with simple gold and ruby jewels.  The necklace is the Cross of Lorraine.  I am not thrilled with her braid.  I think I like the 2nd one the best as she is the most historical.  The first one, I like, but she needs more mystical elements.  Arabella is on my base.  Some dolls you just have a strange relationship with--it's not her fault!  She is pretty, I guess.

I got first place from Raven--but then I was the only entry!

Formal Dolls

Eillinor

This is my second doll.  I am trying really hard with folds here--although I am not very successful.  Base by Selenit Tower  I also used Ninique's great corset tutorial.

Marianna

This is my first tool shaded doll.  I over smudged the folds.  I used Doll on the Hill Factory's base.  I also used Mari's shade tutorial.  However, hers looks a lot better.

Meredith

Here I was trying to be more daring and creative.  The base is from Glamour Puss.    I used L!nnSane's skirt tutorial .  Again, hers looks a lot better.  I also used Josie's waistlet as an example.

I couldn't decide which version I liked better.

Marina

This is Marina. I used Ninique's  palettes and her shading tutorial doll as inspiration.  I used Libby's base and hair tutorial. I used Amy's  tutorial on orbs, but mine look a lot different.

Claire, The Debutante

This is one of the most beautiful dolls I have made.  I started her a long time ago and then finished her rather quickly.  Once I got the dress design right, the rest of her fell into place!  I am also working on a full doll tutorial based on her--my first tutorial!  Base is by DHF.  I used DHF's transparency tutorial as a reference.  I am really thrilled with her whole look.  Yay me!  It is a doll like Claire that gives me hope and pride in my dolling.

Vivianne

I made Vivianne for a contest at Morgan Le Fey's site.  I used Morgan Le Fey's base and mangled Calli's ringlet tutorial.  I gave up the ringlets, but kept the hair shape.  This was one of my first dolls post-hiatus.  I am happy with her overall, although her folds look a bit angular.  But, yay for getting back to dolling!

Havanna, Mardi Gras

Havanna loves Mardi Gras, although she never quite gets around to Lent!  I made Havanna for a Valentine's Day palette challenge at Last Gate.  I am really happy about the way she turned out.  I used Haich's base and E-Pwn's awesome hair tutorial.  I also once again referred to Haich's dress tutorial.  I really tried to be creative and have fun, and I did!  I feel like I am finally getting the hang of sophisticated dress folds (thanks Haich!) and hair color contrasts.

Belle

My first doll on my Selena base.  I LOVE the skirt.  I didn't think it would work and it did on the first try.  Boy, was I surprised!  I am not thrilled with her shoes, but I always struggle with shoes.  I might edit them.  But, I love the dress.  She is also wearing diamonds as she is going to Tre Chic's Christmas Gala Ball and the dress code calls for diamonds.  I used one of Sephora's dolls as a reference in making the skirt fold outline.

Photobucket

Here she is on Cindy's background

Almyra

I made Almyra for a challenge at The Last Gate---she is inspired by asparagus soup!  I couldn't decide which version was better---the folds come up further on the second version.  I am really pleased with the way the side panels came out.  I also really like the hat an chiffon hat piece.  I used one Xandorra's as a reference for the hat.  I had a lot of fun making her.  I am still unsure about the success of my fold technique.  But, I really like Almyra.  My base.

Barbie and American Girl Dolls

High Tea and Savories Barbie

This is my latest feat!  I made her for a contest at Jenny M's.  The idea was to doll a Barbie--and Barbie I am an expert on.  I have over 200 and counting.  See My Life in Pictures Page for some shots.  I was certainly influenced by various tutorials, but I didn't use any specific ones for once!  Yay me!  I don't actually have this Barbie, but she is an English Lady.  I am proud of the way she turned out.  I might have been able to make the dress a little more even and the brooch bigger, but I felt that I did my best without doing too much fiddling--sometimes too much fiddling ruins a job well done.  The base is Haich's.  The picture of the actual Barbie is from the Barbie Collector Website.  I also just joined The Barbie Club and got a great mouse pad, subscription to a new Barbie Magazine, a Hollywood Bound Barbie and gift certificates.  Check it out!

My Second Real Award!  Thanks Jenny--and all those who voted for me!

High Tea and Savories Barbie in Midsummer's Night Garb

This is the Barbie in her lingerie.  I made her in this way for the Midsummer's Night Contest at Jenny M's also.  The Midsummer's Night Contest is inspired by Hugh Hefner's Midsummer's Night Party at the Playboy Mansion--the dress is of course minimal.  I figured since I had her dressed, I might as well doll her in her delicate state of undress too.  The base is still Haich's.  The patterns are from Sparkling Ice and Solace's Meadow.  Jenny M made me a great award for joining her contest!  Thank you so much!

Sophisticated Lady Barbie 1963

I fell in love with this Barbie when I was a little girl looking at my aunt's 1960s Barbie catalogs.  I got the reproduction and I love her.  She is one of my favorites.  See the real doll here.  I've always wanted to doll her and using my Vintage Barbie base, I did.  I am happy with how she turned out.  I put a lot of work into her.  I think the folds on the skirt could be better and I really struggled with the bubble cut, but overall, I am proud of her.  I used the Hallmark ornament of her as reference.

Photobucket                 Photobucket

Solo In the Spotlight Barbie

I wanted to make a New Year's doll and since this outfit was part of my Christmas gift---in the 1959 50th Anniversary Barbie Reproduction--I was inspired.  I am happy with her.  I do like my Vintage Barbie base for dolling Barbies.  The actual picture of this doll is here.  I like the dress and the folds and I love the microphone stand---dumb pixel luck with that success!  Her hair curls look a bit stiff--but so are Barbie's.  She was fun.

Tarina Tarantino

Phew.  I worked on this doll for most of my vacation which went entirely too quickly!!!  There is a reference picture here from Tarina's website and hereTarina Tarantino is a jewelry designer and recently she  designed a Barbie doll, so that is how I became familiar with her.  I now have this adorable Barbie.  But, she was a really challenge to create and I am not entirely sure how I feel about her although I've gotten a lot good feedback on her. I think I worked on her too much.  There is so much detail in her too and I really tried to capture that.  Her hair isn't quite like the Barbie's because I was using a different reference picture at the time, but I tried to make it a bit over the top hoping it would fit the image of the doll.  A Barbie cameo is supposed to be on her belt, but that obviously wasn't going to show up.  Although if you blew her up, you would see a rudimentary face there.  I like the tights and the shoes, but I could not figure out how to make her diamond tiara or hem diamonds sparkle.  Grrrr.  I like the way her purse came out--without a lot of fuss too.  I am not sure about her skirt folds.  I tried blush for the first time using Snap-hiss Dolls' tutorial.  I also edited her face, on my base, to look more like the Barbie's.  I fear she looks a bit clownish, but I think I need to not look at her for a while!  I am proud of all the detail in her.  Palettes from the Barbie doll reference pictures.

Happy 50th Birthday Barbara Millicent Roberts, aka Barbie!

If you don't know by now, I am HUGE Barbie fan.  This year is Barbie's 50th birthday.  It has been a banner year for Barbie.  I wanted pay Barbie homage by making a doll of her.  She was the first woman on the moon--way before the men in 1969--and she has been a doctor, lawyer, mother, teacher, astronaut, stewardess, paleontologist, ballerina, cowgirl, pilot, designer, artist, actress, vet, nurse, doctor, soldier, fashion editor, model, and so much more!  She has brought me and countless other women and girls-and some boys!--joy for 50 years.  She shows women that they can be anything they want to be and have style while doing it!  I wanted to make a dress that captured the original Barbie with the black and white bathing suit, but also incorporated the classic pink I associate Barbie with.  Her hair style is based on the swirl ponytail from 1964. She is wearing the Solo in the Spotlight necklace from 1960. I did four or five redo's of the ruffles and I still don't think they are right.  But they are the best I can do on this doll.  I think I could have done better...but the year isn't over yet.  I like the shading on the rest of her.  She is on my vintage Barbie base.  I owe a lot of thanks to the help of Raven, IBelle, and Sephora at Ship of Dreams for their ruffles help. For the best Barbie collecting and resources and great fan club try the Barbie Collector's Website! So, Happy Birthday Barbie!  I am a Barbie girl all the way!  Barbie is my inspiration!

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is based on my American Girl Doll, Elizabeth that I got for my birthday.  I hope to do a AG series.

If you don't know what American Girls are--check out their website.  They are a great, wholesome doll company started by a former teacher/educator.  I used a base by Glamour Puss.  I used Ninique's hair tutorial.

See My Adoptions and Gifts Page for another American Girl.

Molly and Kit

This is Molly and Kit from the American Girl Collection--and I got folds!  I was struggling with a different doll for weeks, and finally stopped and started fresh.  Out came Molly and Kit!  I am pretty proud of them, and I got my first chance to frankendoll my own dolls!  The shoes are frankendolled!  I had fun with these two dolls--and that's the whole point right?

The bases are Xandorra's Twinkle. Base edits--eye colors--by me. I used Libby's and Fainelloth's hair tutorials as references.  Molly's hair is pixel shaded along with Kit's bow--the rest is tool shaded.  Yay me! I really enjoyed working on a smaller base too.  Ohhh, and I know that Molly's hair ought to be more..but, hey...

May Kit and Molly be a good omen for the Holiday season.

You can see my Molly and Kit and friends here--not yet dressed for Christmas.

Please don't adopt Molly who was made as a Secret Santa gift for Fairytopia.  Please don't adopt Kit who was part of the Advent Calander at Fairytopia also!

Felicity and Emily, American Girls

I created Felicity and Emily for Secret Santa gifts at Ship of Dreams, but I also wanted to work on my American Girl series.   Xandorra's bases.  No tutorials really!  Wow!  I know that Felicity has no folds, but I just wasn't going to deal with that.  I made her look like her picture.  I am fairly proud of these two dolls.  They were fun to make--although the details were time consuming!  Please don't adopt.

Kirsten

This is a gift for one of my dear friends at Tre Chic.  She is of course, the American Girl Doll, Kirsten, in her St. Lucia Day outfit.  I used some of DHF's St. Lucia dolls as reference.  But, I did the braids all on my own.  I like the folds and the bows and head piece.  But, I am a bit unsure of the skirt outfit--it is a big too round in the middle, but I didn't know how to fix it.  She didn't take me that long, and the fact that she is so good surprises me!  No adopting please and my base.

Elektra

This is Elektra from the movie Elektra starring Jennifer Garner.  I like Elektra a lot.  She kicks butt and takes names later.  She loves her father and is a bit obsessive compulsive--and doesn't like to play by all the rules.  She is cool.  To check out more about Elektra and Daredevil--her butt-kicking beau look here.

The base is by DHF.  I had trouble getting the detail to be in the right contrast with the rest of the outfit.  I also stumbled with the metal tridents and her boots--but overall, she is an accomplishment.

See my Adoptions and Gifts Page for another Elektra.

Modern Day Alice

This is my version of Alice in Wonderland circa 2006.  I used Fainelloth's base and DHF's great jeans tutorial. My Gypsy doll's (see below) jeans turned out much better than Alice's--thanks to Xena who helped me figure out that it is all in the smudging strength--50%.  I made Alice for a contest at Cloud9--who also was lovely enough to give me a great Gift for Christmas.  Anyway, I enjoyed working on Alice and decided to go simple--for once with me, less was more.

I also got an award for her!  How cool--The Wild Card--like me--Wild and Unpredictable.

Buffy at her first Sunnydale Prom

Buffy is the coolest.  She takes on the big bads of the world--just her and Mr. Pointy--and on occasion The Scooby Doo Gang assists.  I worked HARD on Buffy.  Shading her white dress was no easy feat.  I am really hoping that I have finally got the hang of folds--sort of. This is also the first time I've done blood.

Obviously there is Buffy before she battles the Master and then after she battles the Master and his minions.  No matter what--she is the modern girl through and through.

I have Vanessa to thank for a white palette and advice.  I used a base by Fainelloth.  I relied on pictures from this Buffy site.  I also relied on Fainelloth's tutorials for Photoshop.

Darla from Buffy Season 1

I had wanted to do a vampire for sometime--since Haich inspired me with her vampires.  So, after Buffy I figured I doll her nemesis Darla.  Darla is Angel's--the vampire with whom Buffy is in love--old flame from way back in the 1800s.  So after much ado, here she is.  I only worked on her for months because of tutoring, grad school and teaching.  I had time to doll once a week.

Her base is DHF.  I also used DHF's dollmaker accessories as tutorials of sorts--so thank you!  I used Fainelloth's great Photoshop hair and fold tutorials.  I had a heck of a time with the sweater folds, but thanks to Mel the Ripper from TG, I finally got it with the dodge and burn tools.  So--ever grateful Mel!  Also I used Xandorra's plaid skirt tutorial.  Haich's vampires also helped me make my own sharp teeth.  Lastly---shoes, ugh.

This is Darla from Season One of Buffy the Vampire Slayer--she donned a Catholic School girl outfit when working for the Master to overthrow the first of many failed attempts at destroying The Slayer and Sunnydale.  Don't worry--she bites...then she asks your name.

Faith, Slayer Gone Bad!

Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is back and she is bad!  In Season 4 Faith returns from her Buffy-induced coma (not in a good way) and comes after Buffy and the Scooby's.  Here she is.  I tried to remain faithful to her outfit in Episode 15, but I did add the belt as my own touch. I like it the belt! I forgot to add Mr. Pointy, so I figure she could rip the cross off her belt and use it dust the vamps. I have shown her with and without a jacket here.  I referred to DHF's amazing jeans tutorial--although, here her pants are supposed to be leather. Base also DHF. I loved doing Faith.  I wish there were more Faith in me!  When Faith is around, it may not be all 5 by 5, but it is always interesting.

Cinderella, Teacher and Fashion Debutante

A TYM Challenge was to make a modern day faerie tale character.  I have always been partial to Cinderella, so I did her before and after the touch of the Faerie Godmother.  Base by Silindor. For the Post Faerie Godmother Faerie hair, I used a  tut by Calli. I used the exact colors from the Disney Cinderella before and after the Faerie Godmother's touch.  Then, I added a bit of text to express how I was feeling at the end of May.  I think Cinderella's dress bottom needs a bit softer lines....but so be it.  Then I adjusted the bodice colors a bit more toward the blue using my Photoshop Elements color adjuster.  I really loved working on Silindor's base!  I enjoyed these dolls a lot!

Nikki, Margie, and Barb "Boss Lady" from Big Love!

I love the show Big Love!  I was inspired to doll its protagonists, friends, sister wives, competitors, and allies.  I used DHF base.  I struggled a lot with the folds on Barbara, and when I did them way back in February I was thrilled with them, but now not so much.  However I am still proud of the girls overall.  The reference picture is here.  I could not get the pattern on Margie's dress no matter how I tried. Not totally happy with the shoes either, but I never am.  I think I did pretty well with the hair! I really enjoyed the experience of dolling them and cant wait for the show to return!

Meg from Little Women

I created Meg for a group collaboration at Trip Your Muse.  I used a paper doll picture for reference.  The original picture had maroon trim, but I liked both.  I am happy overall with Meg.  The folds could have been better, but I really am happy with her hair and the details--like the yarn and bow.  I had fun creating her.  I love the Little Women movie with Wynona Ryder, not so much the book.  DHF base.

Sookie Stackhouse

I started watching True Blood on HBO this fall and and fell in love with the show.  Then I read Charlaine Harris's book, "Dead Until Dark" and fell in love with her books too.  I was much inspired to doll Sookie Stackhouse, the main character, who loves Bill the Vampire.  First, she is in her waitress outfit as she would dress for work at Merlotte's.  I am rather proud of the way she came out--especially the apron.  I have never dolled shorts before either.  One of Cosmic Lucy's dolls gave me the reference for her sneakers.  You will notice two little blood marks on her neck---Bill's love bites.  The second doll is as Sookie looked on her first date with Bill--according to the book.  I am really happy with the dress thanks for Mari's dress tutorial.  Her hair is supposed to be up in a banana clip.  Seeing her on my base though makes me realize that I need to make her arms less stiff.  Both bases mine.  I had a lot of fun with these dolls.  Read the books and watch the show!!

Alice in Wonderland

I have never been a huge Alice fan.  I read the book in college and was rather disturbed by it.  Also, I have real questions about Carroll's predilections.  However, I have always loved the Cheshire cat.  I had a coloring book with Cheshire in it....anyway I do respect Tim Burton's visions and he is re-making Alice in Wonderland with the incomparable Johnny Depp.  I just wanted to doll Alice--she was speaking to me.  It was right before school and I guess that I feel like school is much like Wonderland---mad and upside down.  I feel like my life is like Wonderland a lot of the time. She is in this strange world that she doesn't totally understand and nothing is what it seems.  Maybe that is the way I kind of feel about life sometimes, too.  Kind of lost and not what i expected.  Sigh.  Onto the doll, who captures my feelings about going back to school.  She is on my base and the cat and potion are mine!  The table is Haich's (site down).  I used Barbie's Cheshire cat as a guide.  I am really rather pleased with how the cat came out.  And the cat wasn't as difficult as the dress!  I am rather pleased with the potion too.  I like the dress I guess.  I am not sure about the folds.  Never sure.  I like the detailing.  I am very pleased with the boots and hair.  I used DHF's transparency and hair tutorial as a guide.  I may not love the dress, but I do love the whole look, especially the one with the disappearing cat.

Portia Ayers

My first Harry Potter doll!  Yay!  I did her for a contest at Cavall Castle.  I like the Potter books although I've not read them all.  I just never got around to dolling one.  I went through a sorting quiz and ended up at Gryffindor house of bravery and courage.  Base by me.  I could not decide on which skirt was best.  So, I saved both. I am somewhat happy with the pleats.  I am really happy with the robe.  It was easy compared to the skirt. Go figure.  I did use DHF's dolls as a guide a bit.  I like her braids and hair color.  I like the tie and shirt, too.  And cool wand!  I made the crystal ball and candle--go me!  But the table is by Haich (site down).  She was supposed to have an apparent hobby and her hobby is foretelling the future.  I tried to make the robe and uniform as close to the movie version as I could. I think I could have done better with the skirt and sweater shading---or rather it could be better, I did my best.  But I like her a lot---she makes me smile, a rarity.

Portia is a fifth generation Gryffindor and she has a dark secret and she can see the future.

My Muse

Rebekah--My Muse

This is my first pixel doll.  She has become my Muse.  She is a character from a fictional piece I am writing.

I used Amy's base and tutorials at Xandorra.  I highly reccomend her site and forum.

Rebekah

This is my Muse tool-shaded.  The red cowboy boots came out badly, but I made improvements on the hair and shading.  Her makeup is a bit heavy too.  Base by DHF.

Rebekah Remade--One Year Dolling Anniversary

A year ago I made my first doll--something I never thought I'd be able to do.  A year later I still love dolling and I think I have improved.  So, in honor of my year, and in the tradition of the dolling community, I remade her.  This time I used Wayuki's Base--I used Xandorra's base and tutorials for the first one.  I also used DHF's great jeans tutorial.  I also made use of Haich's eye and lip palettes. Tabbycat helped me out immensely with the boots--although they look a lot better than the black pixels Rebekah originally had for feet.

Overall I am happy with my remake.  I think I overshaded the jeans--but there is always next year.

I have so many people to thank for helping me get this far in my dolling--too many to mention so, everyone at The Gathering, Fairytopia, The Last Gate, and Eden Enchanted.  And, all those great dollers who have provided me with inspiration and tutorials.  Thanks and yay me!

Rebekah, 2 Year Dolling Anniversary Remake

Two years!  I have been dolling for two years!  I started in March/April 2006, but didn't post my first doll until July, so Spring 2006!  This is a remake of my first doll and muse, Rebekah, who is a character is my Graduate Thesis.  She has grown from my original rendition of her.  In my first doll I was all about the simple skills of just figuring out how to doll.  In my second year doll, I wanted to show off all the skills on a curvy base, and in this year's remake I simply tried to capture Rebekah's spirit.  I think I did that successfully!  I used DHF's base and jeans and hair tutorial style.  I think I did pretty damn well on the red cowboy boots, which I have had such a hard time capturing.  I did two versions of her--one with very faded jeans and one with darker jeans.  Rebekah couldn't decide which she preferred.  I have to thank all m wonderful friends and inspirations at The Gathering, Fairytopia, The Last Gate, and Trip Your Muse.

Rebekah, My Muse--Third Year Dolling Anniversary Remake

So the first doll is my third year dolling anniversary remake.  The second doll is my, yes!, second year remake.  The third doll I made on my first year anniversary.  And, the last little Rebekah is one of my first dolls ever---well my first doll that wasn't frankendolled.  I didn't know!  lol.  Anyway, I have come a long way!  Although, my latest Rebekah needs to have black, not grey hair.  Ugh.  I went for more highlights and washed the hair out.  Me and black hair.  I really like her jeans and the boots.  I think they are better than last year.  I also like the subtle wrinkles in her top and the added crystal.  This year I wanted to make Rebekah on my base, so that is my big coup. I still referred to DHF's jeans and hair tutorial.  And I referred to Libby's top tutorial. I like her--she just needs darker hair.  She is adoptable, I guess. Se has had sass from the first time I made her!  You've come a long way, baby!

I see such a psychological progression here too.  I was so tentative and unsure, but determined, in creating my first doll.  I was trying to capture a character in what became what graduate thesis.  I followed Xandorra's tutorial, but I was daring enough to do the off the shoulder tank top.  I painstakingly pixeled the hair.  She is cute.  I was so proud of her.  When I made my second Rebekah, I wanted to show off all I'd learned.  I remember chosing Wayuki's base, but not realizing how big it really was.  I toolshaded the whole doll.  I learned pretty quickly that pixel shading wasn't for me.  I made a lost of strides in that year and I was proud of the results.  I just remember feeling so impressed with how far I'd come in a year and wanting to put it all into my remake doll.  When I made my third Rebekah, I had lost some of the sophomore attitude and skills from the year before.  I wanted to be more faithful to Rebekah, the character as I'd written her.  I also had refined my techniques.  I was thrilled with her---how much more refined she was.  This year, I made the remake much later an usual and at first I kind of saw it as a bother, but then I enjoyed it.  I realized how, in a year or three years, I had really refined my skills.  Also, I was no longer unsure or hesitant.  I still am that when I doll, but I knew I could remake Rebekah successfully.    I also--major coup--made her on my own base.  So this year, Rebekah is my creation from base to finish.  So from tenative to my base.  Wow.  Here's looking at you, kid!

Bases in order: me, DHF, Wayuki, Xandorra (site down)

Faeries and Other Fantasy Creatures

Aleena

This is my first faerie.  I relied heavily on Amy's tutorials. The base is also by Amy.  Drawing faeries is the initial reason I was attracted to dolling.

My First Collaboration!

Shadowlady--My Sister!--and I worked together on these dolls.  She dolled me and I dolled her.    I am on the left and Shadowlady is on the right.  I am thrilled with My Sister's work, and I think I did an okay job with my doll.  I struggle with wing coloring and depth.  I really wanted her to come out fantastic, but I think I could do better. However, I am just ecstatic that I did my first collab with Shadowlady, My Sister!  The theme was winter and pastels.  The bases are from Fainelloth.  I used DHF's new hair tutorial. I also used Fainelloth's Indis base new fur tutorial. Don't adopt please.

Collaboration Version 1 and 2

The doll on the left is the first version of Shadowlady--but I forgot to color her eyes and her hair is darker.    But I am proud of the way the hair turned out, so I am keeping her here.  The doll on the right is the second version of Shadowlady, but I still got her hair color tooooo dark this time.

Freedna, The Fairytopia Birthday Fairy

I am much happier with this doll.  I have been wanting to make another faerie for a while, and then Fairytopia's Monthly Challenge celebrating their first anniversary was reason enough.  The base if Haich's--the ears are edited by me.  I was somewhat inspired by Calli's wing tutorial--She has amazing work!  I think I need to add jewelry to her hands and something to the dress--but I think she came out okay.  I had fun with her!

She is also the Faerie who is ushering in Spring!

Mermaid and Her Human Form

This couple is for my first contest at .  You were supposed to make a mermaid and and human on the same base with the same color hair.  I used DHF  Moe and Fanstasy base. This is my first mermaid.

Cha-Ching!  I got the concept of  folds here! I got the texture and the 3D effect I have worked so hard for!  Yay for me.  I may have gone a bit overboard with the folds, but I was so thrilled with the effect, that I kept it!  Finally, I got did it!!  Thank you Fainelloth and her amazing Photoshop Elements tutorial.  It is all in the strength of the smudge!

I also used Xandorra's great mermaid tutorial.

Miss Ladybug and Miss Cat Eyes

I made Miss Ladybug and Miss Cat Eyes for the Monthly Challenge at The Last Gate.  The goal was to create a half animal-half human signature and avatar--although not the typical mermaid or centaur. Finding a Ladybug on one of my Barbie dolls inspired me to think what might happen if a Ladybug were half human.  I love cats, so the avatar was just me using my imagination.

I am pretty happy with Miss Ladybug, but I think I could have done better on Miss Cat Eyes' whiskers.  Both bases are by Xandorra.  I used Glamourpuss's cat base as a model for making my own cat ears.  On, Miss Ladybug the only tutorial I used was from Kiki Va A--her great Victorian Hair Tutorial.

I almost didn't do the challenge because it was--well, challenging to my imagination and skills--but I am glad I did it!

I'd like to dedicate Miss Ladybug to Word Weaver.

Vivian the Vamp

I made Vivian for a vampire contest at my sister Alayna's.  I really tried to make her sexy and I think I succeeded!  She is probably the sexiest doll I've every done.  I also did my first attempt at eye make-up.  Pretty easy really, just like I put on my own.  Base by DHF.

She is trolling the nightclubs for a dinner date or is it a date for dinner--both?  She is wearing a cross because she is such a powerful vamp crosses don't bother he--besides she never believed in the power of the cross when she was alive--she was Unitarian.  She's not afraid of anything except maybe Buffy. . .

Fay the Fey

This is Fay the Fey.  I made her for a contest at Cosmic Lucy's, but I kept thinking of a very special friend of mine and the second version came about.  We will see. . .

I used Calli's wing tutorial--and boy did it work.  She is a great doller.  The dress is one that I bought in Cambridge when I was at grad school.  I also dolled this dress in my TG yearbook portrait.  I used Haich's base and Xandorra's flower tutorial.  I am really thrilled with her.  Again, not perfect, but I did well .  She is the best faerie I have made yet.  So, Bully to me!  Don't adopt please.

I created Ivy for a contest at The Road Not Taken. I also had in mind to make her my Winter Solstice Gift to all my friends, inspirations, and sisters! See that version here. I used Fainelloth's fur tutorial and Xandorra's stocking tutorial.  The wings were inspired by Jasmine Becket-Griffith. Base is also by Xandorra.  I roughly followed Ninique's hair outline.  I enjoyed making her all Christmasy and she really helped me get into the spirit of the holiday!  Please don't adopt.

Fay, The Modern Fae, Inspired by J. Corsentino

J. Corsentino is an incredible artist.  I am highly inspired by his work.  This faerie is inspired by one of his Modern Fae--one reference picture here.  I also entered her in a Warrior Themed Dress Up Ball Contest at The Gathering with my Sister Eveli.    I tried to make her hair two tone and give her purple Doc Martins--like I had in high school.  I really was trying to use incongruent and dark colors.  Base by Fainelloth.  She decided she wanted no wings.  She said that because people no longer believe in faeries her wings fell off.  However as more people believe, her wings are slowly growing back, although they are not yet visible.  Think of that the next time you see a spark of light in the darkness and pass it off as a firefly rather than a fae.

Maeryssa A Faerie

Maeryssa is a Faerie in disguise.  I based her dress on a dress from Faerie-Dreams.  I used Xena's hair tutorial also.  She is on Haich's base (site down). I am happy with her---not totally sure about the folds, but I really like the shoes and stripey socks.  I like her whole look really.  She looks like she is dancing and happy.  I want to at some point make Maeryssa when she isn't in disguise!

Dragoness

I created the Dragoness for a challenge at LG, too.  There is great website here that gives you a palette from any picture.  I took my inspiration and picture from Jessica Galbreth's Dragoness.  She is an amazing artist.  I worked a loooong time on this doll.  She was supposed to have great dragon wings, but it just wasn't meant to be.  I got the outline and such, but I just couldn't shade them.  I needed to be done with her.  So, she is as is.  I like the folds I guess--they are my style. I also like the corset is inspired by Ninique's corset tutorial. I am not sure about the sleeves.  I like the gold neckband, it gives her a classical look.  And I really  like her hair--I was going for something like dragon horns.  She has strength and power--something i need to remember I have.  The hair design was somewhat inspired by Xena's tutorial. Base by me. I like the way her make-up came out.  Overall, I am proud of this creation.  She had a lot of adjustments.

Myths, Legends, and Spiritual

Belated Beltane Beauty--Brittany
Here is one of my latest dolls--it took me a while to finally post her.  I made her for Monisse's Celtic Inspired Contest.  I loved the contest idea and I never got the chance to make a Beltane doll like I intended, so here I let my creativity fly.  I am not entirely pleased with the folds, but I am pleased with the details.  Each time I think I have folds down...but no matter I really enjoyed making her and felt spiritually lifted with her!  I used Haich's base.

Cerridwyn, The Witch

I created Cerridwyn for Fairytopia's August Theme: Hocus Pocus.  I had so much fun making her!  I struggled at the beginning, but then it just all came together.  I used Haich's base and Xena's witch hats as a guide and inspiration.  This is the first time I have done long swoopy sleeves although when I first started dolling I TRIED so hard!  They aren't perfect here, but they are pretty good!  I've come a long way!  Making her was an awesome experience!  I think I have developed my fold style, but I would still like to improve.  But, yay me! Do not adopt.

Morgan Le Fey

Morgan Le Fey gets a bad rap in Arthurian Legends, but she is my one of my favorites.  Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley opened my eyes to Morgan Le Fey and King Arthur.  I am really happy with how she came out. I tried a higher contrast on the hair--a fantasy moonlit look. I really like the folds---FINALLY!  I also like the corset although I was told that it looked like she had love handles, I beg to differ!  It was very spiritual working on her.  Then I gave her to my dear Sister Rain, because she needed some good magick.  So, no adopting.  Originally, I was doing a doll for TYM's March theme, Celtic Lore, but Morgan Le Fey made herself known to me.   Base DHF.   No adopting please.

The Goddess Brigid

I created The Goddess Brigid for The Miss Doll Myth Pageant.  I don't care if I get past the auditions, creating this doll on Haich's base was an incredibly spiritual experience.  I was blessed enough to actually be inspired by the Goddess and channel her.  I based her gown on Arwen's Coronation gown from Lord of the Rings.  I used reference pictures from the great site Very Faery. I created her crown and pendant on my using using Pagan symbols and Brigid's Cross. I used some reference pictures from DHF's fold tutorial.  I am really thrilled with her!  I used to see dolls like this, with folds like this, when I first started dolling and think "that is what I want to be able to do!" and "I will never be able to do that!"  Well, I  did it.  Not perfect, but I did it! I need to thin out the edges of her hair and add a few more stray strands, but I am so proud to say she came from me--The Goddess Brigid's Inspiration.  The last version of The Goddess Brigid with the large crown is for a contest at HermiG's.  I had started the crown on another doll, but I struggled with it so.  However, the crown just came to me on The Goddess.  Blessed Be!

Siobhan, Summer Solstice Sparkles

Summer Solstice--a high point of Pagan Spirituality.  I referenced a dress from The Pyramid collection--and used the colors from that dress.  I also tried sparkles for  the first time.  The second version, didn't come out so well, as the wand sparkles looked more like a ribbon or whip!  So I went back to the drawing board.  I am learning to use my PSE brushes.  I much prefer the 3rd and 4th versions.--although I also like the first version.  I also tried ivy and like the effect. I am really trying to get better at hair contrast and shading.  I used DHF's transparency tutorial and base.  And, I must thank all the ladies at TYM for their sparkle advice!  A Magickal Summer to all!

Blessed Samhain

I made this doll in honor of The Great Mother Goddess.  I really struggled with the folds, but I think I came out well.  I am learning. I used DHF palettes.  The base is mine!  She is simple.  I thought about adding a lot of jewelry of such, but she seemed to want to remain simple.  I am really happy with her hair.  I am actually really happy with her. I did her in black and orange because those are tradition Samhain colors.  The whole idea of Samhain is bidding goodbye to the sun and long days and thanking the Gods for the harvest.  It is in a way, the death of the time of the sun, and birth of the time of the moon.  Orange is a natural color, as it's seen in nature in the wheat, leaves, and sky.  Black is in honor of the coming darker days. In Honor of the Pagan New Year, Samhain, when the veil between the worlds is thinnest.

My last and most recent edit thanks to my fine forum friends!

Winter Solstice

I worked for a long time on this doll.  I am proud of her.  I really struggled with the folds.  Thanks to Sephora I got them!  She is inspired by Amy Brown's Winter Solstice Faerie.  I used Haich's (site down) staff prop as a reference in making my own.  I am rather proud of the hair detail and braid work.  I know the moon is a bit off, but I tried my best.  She is on my Selena base. I am still unsure about my fold style though.... Winter Solstice is the darkest day of the year, but it marks the end of the encroaching winter, the beginning of lighter days, thus it is celebrated.  Blessed Be, Mother Goddess.

Cancer

I love this doll.  This was for my first challenge at Charmed Pixels--a great little Pagan Pixel forum.  Cancerians are constantly trying to balance their inner imaginary lives with reality--their love of the old with the modern.  So, I chose jeans for the modern and a more whimsical Renaissance type top.  I am really happy with the jeans and top.  Cancerians are moon and water signs--so she is holding a moon and a crab, an influencing animal.  I chose the bright blue for the moon--the first pixel circle that ever came out well---to reflect the water influence.  According to a book I have, Cancerians also tend to have red hair---I don't--but hey.  I tried freckles, but they didn't work.  I really like the first one with the sign--by freeware--behind her.  I am floored at how well my litle pixel crab came out.  I really enjoyed this doll and am quite proud of her.  Base by me.  I also got an award from CP for participating!

Ostara

I was so pleased with this doll that was surely inspired by the Goddess.  I made her for Ostara or Spring Solstice and Easter. I used DHF's palettes for the dress--such great palettes--and I borrowed a shade from Sephora for the hair.  I am really happy with how the folds came out.  I also like the corset, somewhat inspired by Ninique's corset tutorial.  I fear I do corsets too much though.  She is supposed to be wearing a garland with two orchids in her hair.  And of course she is holding an egg with the symbol of The Goddess.  I loved working on her and I am really pleased with her.  I think she is one of my best.  Base by me.

Brigid, Blessed Beltane

I am really proud of this creation.  I consider this to be one of my greatest creations, thanks to the inspiration and guidance of the good Goddess Mother.  Brigid is on my base and sort of inspired by Goddess of Wisdom Barbie.   My dolls inspired by the Goddess always turn out better.  The fire is in honor of the Beltane fires, but the butterfly is a symbol of the earth awakening and new life.  She is adoptable of course.  I loved working on Brigid.  Since I was too busy too properly celebrate Beltane, this was my offering to the Goddess.  I am really pleased with the folds and her crown of flowers and the pattern--the whole doll!  Brigid is wearing a Goddess necklace, but you'd have to zoom in to see it. I think I referred to Libby's and/or DHF's braid tutorial.  Sigh.  I do love her.  Blessed Be!

Summer, for Summer Solstice

I am thrilled with the way Summer came out.  I had wanted to doll this dress for a long time, but was very intimidated by it.   I made a whole outline and sectioned outlines of the dress and then shaded it in sections, which was easy,  to my surprise.  I am happy with the folds too. For a not floor length, but not real short skirt--I think I finally got the hang of it.  She didn't tell me at first what she wanted in her hands, but once she did, it fell into place.  Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, celebrating the sun, so the gold and rubies are in honor of the sun.  Her necklace is supposed to imitate the rays of the sun.  I really like her gladiator sandals too and her nut brown hair.  The traditional garb for Summer Solstice is white druid robes, but I wanted something more colorful.  The intricate pattern on the real dress didn't work on Summer, so I added a subtle pattern to the hem.  She is wearing a traditional flower crown.  Again, she was inspired by and is an offering to the Goddess---because of this she came out beautifully! She was ever so much fun to make! Blessed Be! Adoptable. She is on my base.

Macha, Blessed Lughnasadh

Here is my offering for Lughnasadh.  She is a representation of the The Goddess Macha who I discovered is associated with Lughnasadh as well as with the God Lugh.  She is also inspired by Jessica Galbreth's Autumn Grandeur.  She is on my base.  I had trouble getting the scythe right--it needs to be thicker on the right side. but I am pretty happy with the wheat and the bird. I like the folds and her hair piece.  I'm not so sure about the grass or her hair contrast colors.  I enjoyed working on her and I learned a lot about Lughnasadh.  It is the first Sabbat that marks the winter months as it is the first harvest.  Although the holiday celebrates the sun, it also celebrates the end of summer.  It is a time to celebrate crafts and reflect.  My dolls inspired by the Goddess always turn out better.  She looks better on a light background because of some weird transparency issues around the grass and wheat.  Thank you Goddess. Adoptable.

Blessed Samhain

I love this doll!  She is on Haich's (site down) base.  All the props are mine, although I did use Monti's tutorial for the pumpkin.  The cat is all by me!!!  The cat isn't perfect, but still!  I used on of IBelle's dolls as a guide for the web.  She was somewhat inspired by Trick or Treat Barbie, which my husband so graciously surprised me with!  I like her a lot.  I created the pattern myself.  I did use Ninique's hair tutorial and I really liked the hair, so I made a version without the hat.  I like the shading---it's the first time I have ever done a skirt this this.  I am also pleased with the hat.  I made the orange palette from an actual pumpkin picture.  I was also inspired to make her by a challenge at LG.  And, at the last minute I entered her in Krystaline's contest and won first place!  For me though, she was also my offering to Samhain. She is more stereotypical than traditional--but witches are so fun! The challenge required she have five of a whole list of things.  The challenge also required that the witch be inspired by one of the four elements. I made her an Earth witch, because she is based on the pumpkin.  She also has an animal, head piece, corset, cauldron, potion, laces, pattern, and jewelry.  I really do like her from the shading to the dress design to all the different elements---and her Goddess necklace.

Gifts

My Gift to My Sister, Shadowladay

Shadowlady made me an incredible sister doll when she asked me to be her sister.  You may see her gift to me on My Sisters Page.  Finally, I got around to making her a sister doll to accept her generous proposal.  I am not crazy about the shoes, but I tried.  I was unsure of the perspective.  I used DHF's hair tutorial, Libby's hat tutorial as a guide, Tachiquestions's jewelry tutorial, and Pixel Sisters's flower tutorial.  The base is DHF too.  Don't adopt please.

She is supposed to be me.  I am a major hat girl.  I enjoyed working on all the detail and learned some handy skills through this doll--like simply saving a doll as a gif in Photo Elements, duplicating and rotating layers and outlines.

The greatest part is that this creation marks Shadowlady's and my Sisterhood!

A Sisterly Gift for Cloud9

This is a doll I created for Melody at Cloud9 when she asked me to be Her Sister!  I was so excited and surprised!  Base by Libby.  I think she would make a great faerie too, and might take the time to do that someday.  Don't adopt please.

An Overdue Sisterly Gift for Lorrain

I finally created My Sister Gift to Mary at Lorrain's Corner.  It was long overdue!  But, I am happy with the outcome.  Base by DHF.  And, so much of my hair help has come from DHF's fabulous tutorials.  Don't adopt please.

New Sister--Alayna!

I asked Alayna to be My Sister and she accepted!  The doll she made me is on My Sister Page.  She has a great site Shaded Past--check it out!  I met Alayna on The Gathering--we joined about the same time and she is a lovely young lady.  I am so happy she accepted!  This is my gift to her on Fainelloth's base.  I really tried to be creative and colorful.  Don't adopt please.

This is the doll I made for Rain. She has a spectacular website, Amethyst Rain, with a slew of terrific features and even some great homemade gifts.  You can see more on Rain on My Sister Page and the plain doll in My Formal Faeries and Fantasy Section.  Base by Haich.

Sapphire

This is my birthday gift to My Sister Shadowlady.  I used her birthstone and (unknown to me at the time!) her favorite color to make a doll.  I used Graphic Dolls's base.  The colors on the doll are only from the background gem.  It was fun making this doll and I had an excellent reason!  I am not entirely happy with the folds--Shadowlady's gift to me above--is much prettier, but I was quite happy with the overall outcome.  This is my first doll with a background! Do not adopt

A Gift for Haich!

This is a gift for Haich because she is an inspiration.  All the props and the base are hers. Do not adopt.

Sizzy

I made Sizzy for my sister Rain on her base.  I am not totally happy with the way the top came out, but I love the colors.  I used DHF's hair tutorial.  I also tried my hand at some eye shadow.  Sizzy was done pre-hiatus.

Winter Faerie, Ivy

I created Ivy for a contest at The Road Not Taken. I also had in mind to make her my Winter Solstice Gift to all my friends, inspirations, and sisters!

Felicity and Emily as Secret Santas

This is my actual Secret Santa Gift to Krissy, so please don't adopt.  Ornament outlines by Jersey.  Cupcake outline by Sechmet. I really enjoyed making this gift.

Frankie, A Secret Santa Gift

This is a Secret Santa Gift for KittyxD at Fairytopia, so no adopting.  Base and hair tutorial by DHF.

Nyssa's Healing Faerie

I made this faerie for Nyssa at TYM when she was rather ill.  I am not totally happy with the folds, but it was the thought behind it that meant something.  Base Xandorra.  No adopting please.

Cocoa, Creamy Chocolate Creation

I created Cocoa for a challenge at The Last Gate.  The goal was to create a decadent chocolate doll.  I did that keeping in mind some yummy frosting.  I obviously couldn't decide on the sleeves and overskirt, so I did several versions. Then my Dear Sister Rain had a birthday and since she adores chocolate, I decided this was the perfect birthday gift.  No adopting the doll with the text please.  Base by Mariiii.  I used Xena's funky hair tutorial.  And, of course Haich's fold tut still helps me out.  Cocoa is of course holding two nummy treats in her hands.

IBelle's Gift

Please don't adopt.  I made this gift for IBelle at Couture, because IBelle is a great woman and she is always making me gifts and avatars, which I tend to not do.  This was just a way to say thank you.  I am happy with her.  I like the flippy little folds and the swath of light green on her dress.  I think the pattern really makes the dress though.  I also love her hair which originally was inspired by E-pwn.  I found a great basket tutorial at Monti's and used that for the basket although the eggs and grass--came out well!--are all mine.  She is small, but she has a big heart thanking IBelle for her friendship.

Sephora as a Little Girl

The great Sephora, an artist and owner of Ship of Dreams, told me that she didn't get to wear a lot of frilly dresses as a little girl, so I dolled Sephora, as a little girl, in a frilly dress.  Or the best I could do.  The creation also doubled for the Easter parade challenge where we had create a doll with a hat, gloves, a bird, the color yellow, an umbrella, a basket, and flowers.  The base is Sephora's, but the props are all mine! I am impressed with that!  I also tried grass for the first time.  I am happy with the way Sephora came out.  The shading on the dress might have been better done, but I am happy with the hat and her lacey little gloves.  I was really happy with the way the props came out.  I think her shoes are cute too and I like how I did the flowers on her outfit.  Sephora, a dear friend of mine, deserves so much more than I could ever give her and she means the world to me---so this is just a small tribute.  Please don't adopt.

Lilac, Gift for Rain

Lilac didn't tell me at first that she was a gift for My Sister, Rain, but when she did tell me, we were both happy!  I love the folds on the skirt, that seems to be my fold style at the moment.  Sometimes I am proud of my fold styles and other times I wonder....but, I adore the ruffles---those came out well!  I made the wings by referencing--gasp!--a real dragonfly.  I like the subtle veins.  Her hair style gave me a bit of a struggle, but I really am happy with what I settled on.  I like working on a doll with one or two colors.  The little bow really touches off the ruffles perfectly.  The third version of her has lighter shading, because I couldn't decide which one I liked better.  But, I think I prefer the darker shading.  Looking at her makes me happy!  She is on my base and she was a lot of fun to make! Please don't adopt.

Amaltheia, Healing Faerie

Amaltheia in Greek means "to soothe," which is the perfect name for this doll.  For the first week of summer I was very ill because I was detoxing from some very serious, but very legal prescription medication.  I was a mess physically and emotionally--I couldn't even look much at the computer.  And, the prayers of my family, dear friends, especially those at Ship of Dreams and Rain, truly helped me heal.  I am free of the medication now and feeling like myself, mostly.  I truly and most sincerely believe that the prayers of those who love me helped me through.  This doll is just a small token of my appreciation to those people.  She was very soothing to make, and the first doll I made after my detox--as I call it.  The doctors say the drug wasn't addictive, but rather had discontinuation symptoms.  Yeah, whatever.

I am rather happy with how she came out.  Faeries are always working in the unseen, sometimes seen world, to help us mortals.  These faeries are buoyed by the our prayers.  She is holding a lotus flower, a symbol of healing.  She is in some ways my faerie self after the storm, when the sun has come out.  She is wearing a Brigid cross, but it's hard to tell.  She is on my base, but I was inspired by Shana and one of her dolls for the wings.  She is made up of pretty simple elements, but she is powerful and grateful.  Blessed be.  Please don't adopt unless she were given to you.

Sophie, The Nymph and IBelle's Sister Doll

IBelle blessed me this month by asking me to be her sister!  I am so honored to be her sister and count her as a good friend.  We got to know each other on Ship of Dreams and she is a very special woman.  Her gift to me is here--she also made her gift into an avatar for me.  She makes all my avatars and I love them!  IBelle is the Queen of Hair and Avatars.  These dolls are also on my Sister Page.  I enjoyed making IBelle's sister doll and she came fairly easily.  I like the folds and the gradient.  I wanted to make a nymph themed doll and I think she fits a nymph.  I like her swirly jewelry and hair.  Some palettes from DHF. Wow!  I am happy with her!  And I love what she represents---a new bond with IBelle, who now has her own website, The Art Pallette. Check it out!  Please do not adopt my doll on my base or her gifts to me. And, I don't need to mention that I love her gifts!  She knows my love of the moon well.

Amethyst, The Dragon Princess and Raven's Sister Doll

I was doubly blessed this month when Raven asked me to be her sister too!  I also got to know Raven on Ship of Dreams and she, along with the other ladies on SOD, helped me through a tough time early in the summer when I was detoxing from some very serious medication (all legal and prescribed!).  So, this is my second version of her doll.  The first one didn't happen, but I love this version.  She was inspired by a little dragon I bought at the Renaissance Faire--from Dragon Folk Studios.  I pixelled that little dragon in Amethyst's hand.  The folds at the bottom could be a bit straighter, but....I like her head piece and necklace. I also like the funky tightly curled hair.  I just really like the palette from DHF. I can't do palettes like that yet.  But, I am really pleased with my little dragon.  Amethyst is very special to me because she represents my new sister-ship with Raven who's website A Lil' Bit of Talent is beautiful.  Check it out.  These dolls are also on my Sister Page.  Please do not adopt my doll on my base or Raven's gift---she knows my love of faeries.  Maybe someday I'll learn to do backgrounds.  Raven is an incredible artist.

Portraits

The Gathering Yearbook Portrait

This is my Gathering Yearkbook Portrait.  It is me in my new pink sundress from the Gap.  I am really pleased with the hair and shading.  Actually, I really like her period.  Base is by Haich.  Until I get vector capacity or better learn PhotoShop Elements 3 my jewelry needs to be understated.  I thought of a hat, because I am never without one, but I really liked the hair too much.

Specially Themed Dolls

Bad Teacher-Good Teacher

This couple is in honor of school starting.  The teacher on the right is the kind of teacher I am.  The teacher on the left is the kind of teacher I need to be sometimes--the kind of teacher I want to be, sometimes

I toolshaded the them, although I am not thrilled with the folds.  I also had trouble with the white shirt's details showing up.  But, I love the image of these dolls.

Base by DHF.  I used Ninique's corset tutorial--again. I used a dollmaker shirt from DHF as a guide for my white shirt and I used Patti's Pixel Dreams Elisabeth (in a black dress) as a guide for my skirt folds--although she got a much more, ahem, authentic effect.

Modern Gypsy

This is my idea of a Gypsy, or Romi, circa 2006.  I used Wayuki's base which I really enjoyed with all the curves.  I again used Ninique's corset tutorial and was inspired by J. Corsentino's Rya Street Fae for the over shirt.  DHF's jeans tutorial was very useful as was Libby's hair tutorial. Thanks Xena! I really liked working on her and letting my imagination go.  As, you can see I published two versions--ah, the wonders of PhotoShop.  She was made for a contest at Arielle's Grotto.

I got seven votes, putting me at Second Place!  Coolness!  My first real award!  Thanks Arielle!

Whirlpool Chic

I spent hours on this doll.  I have so many people to thank on The Gathering and Fairytopia.  The wonderful dollers on these sites really helped me out and guided me when the folds were a bigger mess than they are now!  Dena was especially a huge help.  I made her for a contest at My Sister Shadowlady's site.  The contest is to make a doll inspired by a Whirlpool advertisement.

The only part of her I am really happy with is the hair.  I was determined to perservere with her and the folds--I did learn a lot, but I eneded up kind of hating her.  The base is DHF.  I used Dena's tutorial for the dress and DHF's hair tutorial.  I worked my butt off--and she is what she is.  Sigh.

I was trying to give her some kind of a washer effect, hence the ribbon things in the second image.  This doll is the one I entered in the contest.  At the point I did the ribbons I was just like put in anything and be done!  Obviously the picture is the Whirlpool ad!

A Sisterly Remake--Red Lady

My Sister Shadowlady asked me to join her in a partner contest at I Believe in Faeries.  The contest is to remake your partner's doll keeping the same details, but on a different base--or base set. Shadowlady's doll, Red Lady, on the right, and my doll on the left are both on Fainelloth's bases.  I had to recolor the base--which is something I have never done, so it was a challenge.  But, it was a fun!  It was nice to work on a dress that didn't deal with folds so much.  It was also really fun to just copy another doll--something that is a no-no usually in dolling.

I liked Shadowlady's Red Lady because she is classic in red style.  I am happy with the way mine came out although I am not sure of the shoes.  However, Shadowlady said it was perfect and better than hers!---I don't think so, but her words made my day!

Here is Shadowlady's remake of my doll, Marina.  My original doll on the left is on Libby's base and her remake is on Mal's base.  I think she did an incredible job--her shading is so fluid and soft, and the colors are so vibrant. Those orbs are terrific!  Shadowlday's is Perfect and so much more sophisticated than mine. Very awesome!  She is a very talented doller and great sister!

Miss Aspenwood Formal--She Who Jingles When She Walks

I finally made my first of three dolls for the peerless Rain's Miss Aspenwood Contest.  She has an amazing site Amethyst Rain--check it out!  I loved the idea of her contest and luckily she is as busy as I am taking care of countless animals and homeschooling her son--so that she moves rather slowly in th dolling world! The idea of the contest is to make three dolls: one in a green and gold formal gown, a casual doll, and a talent doll.

She Who Jingles When She Walks is a Native American, or Indian as the un-politically correct (me!) says it.  I won't reveal why she has the name she does yet.  But, I made her in one night and am pretty pleased with the way she turned out.  I used DHF's base (recolored with their shades) and I can't wait to make the other two versions of her--when I have time...

She Who Jingles When She Walks

Here is my second Miss Aspenwood Entry for Amethyst Rain's contest! She is wearing the traditional Indian Jingle Dress--which is her talent.  For the second entry of the contest we were to illustrate our contestant's talent--and she is a Jingle Dancer.  Check out some Jingle Dancing here.

I worked very hard on all of the details, although I am not completely happy with the shading.  I think it could have been more distinguished. I am actually happy with her feather which was surprisingly easy!  The main design on the front of her dress is a Thunderbird--inspired by my American Spirit Cigarettes. The other designs are based around the Wheel of Life--the fourth directions, another sacred Indian symbol. Base by DHF.

I am working on She Who Jingles When She Walks in her casual wear now....slowly....

She Who Jingles When She Walks in Casual Wear

This is the final doll in the Miss Aspenwood Pageant at Amethyst Rain's.  I am most proud of her--I think she is my favorite doll so far!  I used DHF's jean tutorial and I was inspired to design the shirt from here.  Then, I also got great Wampum inspiration from here.  She who Jingles When She Walks is a modern American Indian in her casual, kick-butt outfit.  I like the top with the feathers more, but I was really proud of my suede texture shading, so I decided to show the shirt without the feathers too.  I am not real happy with the boots or the hair beads, but other than that I am thrilled.  She was fun to make too once I got the initial design down.  Base by DHF.

She Who Jingles When She Walks in Full Pageant Regalia

Here are all three versions of She Who Jingles When She Walks.  I love them!  Yay me!  Bases by DHF.  I am really proud of them!

  Formal       Talent      Casual

Guenever and Shadowlady at a Summer Festival.

Shadowlady and I made these dolls as a collaboration this summer.  We dolled each other at summer festivals.  Bases by Sara (site down).  We used each other's country's national colors--Shadowlady is from Estonia and I am all USA!  I am really thrilled with the the first doll, which Shadowlady made.  The doll I made--I am okay with.  The skirt didn't happen quite right, but I am happy with the hair and shoes.  It was a fun Sister activity anyway!

Oly

This is Oly.  I made her for a palette contest at Xena's.  I used Ninique's hair tutorial.  I am actually rally happy with her.  She was one of the last dolls I made before I went on hiatus.  I really enjoyed working on a Xena's curvy base and I also really appreciated Xena's palettes.  Xena made this beautiful award for those of us to didn't place.

Cappuccino Chic Chick

I made CC for Rain's Coffee contest.  I had a lot of fun exaggerating her hair and skirt.  I don't think the thing in her hand actually looks like a cappuccino--but I tried.  I used Fainelloth's fur tutorial for the fur around her waist.  She looks yummy to me.  I used Glamorpuss's base.  I also made CCC before my hiatus.  I also entered the second version in Isodel's Couture Gourmet contest.  However! I placed in Rain's Contest with the original doll!  My second real award!  Yay!  It is such an awesome little award!

Hester, The Healer

I made The Hester, The Healer for a challenge at The Last Gate.  I used Xandorra's base and DHF's braid tutorial.  I am not entirely happy with the shirt or skirt, but I did my best. I really liked the concept though.  And I love Xandorra's serene Moonchild base. This was my last doll before hiatus.

Strawberry Milkshake

I created Strawberry Milkshake for a contest at DHF--to doll an ice cream flavour--and if you know me--you know it is Strawberry all the way, baby!  I used Haich's amazing Angel base and hair tutorial.  I had originally planned on the skirt to look different--as in more genuine layers, but that didn't happen and after I put a lot of work into her I decided the effect wasn't so bad.  So I am not completely happy with the skirt shading--it wasn't what I intended--but I think it works in a certain charming way.  I had a lot of fun with her and she is my first "real" doll since my hiatus.

In Honor of Tiina Talumees

Shadowlady invited me to do a Fashion Designer inspired collaboration.  She came up with a really unique designer, Tiina Talumees.  Because I had several layers to this doll and various looks I decided to display them all.  The first is the plainest with no sparkle; the second has only sparkle in the top; the third has sparkle on the top and a sparkle-y overskirt.  The two dolls below the first three constitute the actual collaboration.  Shadowlady's is obviously the one with the awesome windblown hair and short, cute skirt.  Both of use used bases by Sephora.  I also debuted my collab doll at the Ship of Dreams Glitz and Glamour New Year's Party.  I again referred to Haich's dress tutorial.  I enjoyed this collab and it really challenged me.  I am not sure if I am totally happy with the results of mine, but it kind of grew on me.  I think Shadowlady did a fab job!

Nirvana, Strawberries and Cream

A Challenge at TYM was to create your favorite Ice Cream Flavor, so I went with Strawberries and Cream Nirvana.  I "made" this flavor at Ben and Jerry's Website, and used the colors from the package!  Great Fun!  The hair was inspired by Japenese designer and artist Eri Utsugi. I thought it was perfect for the whipped cream I love on top of all my ice cream! I went round and round with the dress folds, but finally got it!  Overall I really like her.  I don't know how realistic the hair is--but that is the point!  I purposely didn't put any accessories son her, to accent her outfit and hair.  Base by Orange Crux.

Miss Pina Colada

Using a base by Silindor, I created Miss Pina Colada for a Challenge at TYM--the challenge was to pixel your favorite tropical drink, or a doll inspired by a tropical drink.  I went with the doll.  I am fairly happy with the folds--it took a lot of layers.  I also had fun with the hair, which is obviously meant to resemble a---well, I'll let you guess.  I purposely didn't put an accessories on her so that her hair and dress would retain the focus.  I had fun with her!  I really like the freedom of dolling something based on a thing, because I can be creative and unrealistic.  Although, no one ever said I couldn't do that with my other dolls!  Oh, and if you google-image pineapples--you'd be surprised at what you'll get!!

Hope

Hope is my first doll on my base.  So!  Hope is my total creation, from top to bottom--I did it!  That is so cool!  I was inspired to do her for a contest at Calypso's--doll an emotion.  Another first-I tried the gradient.  I am not entirely sure how I feel about the dress folds--too heavy in the wrong places--and I think the gradient washes out the dress lines--but that may be my faults.  But, I am happy with Hope overall!

Photobucket

High Priestess of Ice

Another doll on my base!  I created her for July's Challenge at Last Gate--objective: create a doll inspired by one of a list of various things.  I am happy with her and I really enjoyed creating her.  I tried a different shading technique on the folds and I think it went well for my first time--a few adjustments needed.  I purposely made her hair stiff--for the ice effect.  I got the ice crown's effect with some low noise.  I thoroughly enjoyed her and was kind of sorry when she was done...mmm, a series?

Leggo My Eggo

I made Leggo for a contest for Harmony--a Lego Contest of course. Base by Harmony I said I was going to make her Lego base girly, and hence I did.  I recolored the base and was going to do a red and white dress with an apron--kind of old fashioned---but when I saw the outfit, I thought chef, so Leggo My Eggo was born!  I had no clue how to shade the outfit, so I left it unshaded.  I like how she came out---it was fun!

Annette

I made Anette for a palette challenge at Last Gate.  I really love her hair.  Not crazy about her skirt pleats, but I like the sweater. My Heather Base.

Janey

I made Janey for the same palette challenge at Last Gate.  I couldn't decide which skirt I liked better....I like her shirt and hair, but I am not sure of the whole look... My Prissy Base.

Nelly

I like Nelly a lot!!  I had fun making her for Rain's Little Miss Pixel Contest.  I love the jeans and hat.  I outlined her outfit before I shaded anything and that seemed to work out well.  I really like Nelly!  Her boots are made for walking!  My Heather Base.

Gwyneth

Ahh, When I Grow Up (Rain's contest) I want to be a fashion designer.  It would've been a better choice.  I am quite happy with how she came out.  I used DHF's color palettes---wow, they are so perfect!  I might have smudged the hair a bit more and added some crinkles in the skirt and softened the hat lines, but I am really thrilled with the way she came out!  If it were really me, I would have long hair, but I think a Fashion Designer would be more coif-ed in her hair.  I even dig the shoes!  Bravo me!

Elphie and Elsa

Using my little bases, I made Elphie and Elsa for the Avatar and Signature Challenge at The Last Gate--we were supposed to create dolls inspired by shoes. I also entered Elphie in Tre Chic's Mad Hatter challenge. I based Elphie on Mary Cicely Barker's Acorn Pixie--only mine is a girl.  I am happy with the way she came out.  I'm not sure about the boots, but I like the acorn hat. Elsa is supposed to be wearing a ruff, but I am not sure if it looks like a ruff, but I am happy with her hair and folds.  I also like her eye shadow which I rarely do.  I did use Land of Gilvetra's ruff tutorial as reference.

Photobucket          Photobucket

Franchesca, Peanut Butter Sundae Gal

A challenge at The Last Gate was to create a doll inspired by a Sundae.  In college, I loved Friendly's Peanut Butter Sundaes, so I found a picture of one and made a palette from it.  Then I used the palette to create Franchesca!  I tried ruffles for the first time, using a DHF doll, as a guide, and I'm pretty pleased as to how they turned out.  I am also happy with her folds.  Haich's base is great to work on.  Too bad her site is gone.  The hair of course is meant to represent whipped cream along with her cherry earrings.  I enjoyed working on her immensely and I am quite pleased with the outcome.  There aren't that many elements to her, but I put a lot of time into each one.

Lilith, The Alchemist

This doll was made for Haneul's Alchemy contest.  At first I was stumped, but watching Johnny Depp's Sleepy Hollow rather inspired me.  And, this dress here.  She is on my base, although I used Solace's Meadow's pattern.  The props are mine too!  It was suggested that I make the base of the bookstand bigger, and that is true.  I may do that at some point.  I want to release my props, so before I do that, I will fix the base.  I referenced DHF's and Haich's (site down) cauldrons for my own.  I am really happy with the way she came out.  She is so dark and mysterious.  Alchemy is the ancient art of attempting to turn lead into gold, but it was also a search for immortality.  Apparently, ancient alchemy added quite a bit to modern chemistry.  Who woulda thunk?  You can find out more about alchemy here.  I am really pleased with her dress--the folds are very clean. I like the bustier look of the skirt  and the sleeve shading.  She is wearing a necklace that is the alchemy symbol for gold. Lilith is on the quest for immortality.  I chose to style her hair in a Victorian manner---she was a rebel of a Victorian woman!  I like the anachronistic contrast though.  I am happy with my props!  I did that!  lol  And, the floor!  I did that too!  I ratherly amazed myself with this doll.  I can do a lot more than I think.  Adoptable.

And I got two awards!  :)

Rapunzel

I made Rapunzel for a faerietale challenge at The Last GateBase by me.  I really like the soft palette.  She reminds me of cotton candy.  Around her neck she is wearing the key to her tower prison and her heart.  I relate to the trapped in a tower feeling.  I wrote a short story about Rapunzel as a child and I love this song by Saving Jane about how Rapunzel doesn't need a prince to save her, she can save herself.  Hair is a symbol of power and she has plenty of that.  I wasn't sure what to do with her hands---I kind of wanted them out of the way of her hair....but that didn't happen.  I like the folds and the bodice.  I also like the delicate sleeves.  I am also pleased with the braid.  I wasn't sure about the side panels, but I think they are okay.  I always wanted to try side panels.  Working on her was calming, I think.  I started her before school and finished her after school started so the memory of working on her is kind of hazy.
